We were at Elm Creek Park Reserve again yesterday, all 17 of us! We did a solid 5 miler about a week ago and returned for a 7 miler today. We are training for Isle Royale this summer, so adding weight and miles slowly is the name of the game. This great local hike is the largest of Three Rivers’ parks so you can see something different each visit if you plan it right.
The first signs of spring were out (wildflowers, trumpeter swans, a couple of ticks and a rare TRAIL UNICORN!). It’s my favorite local winter snowshoeing haunt but is beautiful any time of the year.
Elm Creek also works for all skill levels, offering paved and unpaved trails that range in length from 1-12 mile sections. The Three Rivers Parks trail system offers a “Trails at your Pace” program for those with small children or health/mobility considerations. Be sure to check out the Eastman Nature Center and their Wildlife observation area. They have an owl!!!
We rented their 2 camper cabins for a girls weekend in October and it was a fun way to get away without the drive. Perfect for folks who don’t really like camping but want to get outside!
